3.17.12 --
The day was becoming brighter by the moment. Sunlight filtered through the gazebo and lit up dust particles floating through the air; a reminder the white structure hadn't been cleaned in a while. The flowers growing on the side were drooping with overwhelming heat and not enough water. Soon, a horse-drawn wagon came clattering up. Silver horseshoes glinted off the sunlight when the equines rose their hooves high. Each horse was a marvelous ebony color, with no markings; the finest in the land, fit for a King - And so be it. When the wagon came to a final halt, The King slowly emerged from the wagon. He was a tall man, greatly large in stature. The citizens hardly ever saw him, so it was usually all they would remember him being as tall and muscular. Clothed in the finest, the King stepped up onto the alter. This was when nearly every Regal hoped that just one time it was not for a speech, but a beating like the rest of them received. To their disappointment, it was not. "Regals of Falikon," The King smiled - as warm as a smile he could manage. "I welcome you here today to the Centre. We've all gathered so I may share some great news with you." The crowd's eyes narrowed. 'Great news' to him meant bad news for them. Fantastic. "You've all cooperated greatly lately. In this, I will reward each and every one of you with a chance. Just one." The King plucked an invisible fiber of dust off his coat and flicked it away. "The chance is life-changing. With that, how many of you would accept?" The crowd remained silent. Moments later, the King spoke once more. "I'll remember the brave ones the day I choose for myself." He huffed when nobody stepped up, then continued. "The chance," He paused. "is to redeem yourself as the Court's hunter or huntress. The decision will be made off skill, and respect. You will come to the Courtyard in one month should you choose to accept the challenge." The King nearly finished, then stepped off the alter a step. "The choice is yours." The citizens clapped as they were forced to. Guards surrounded the wagon which held swords in defense to anyone who disobeyed. Even the most disobedient smacked their hands. And then he was gone.
*NOTES*: You may role play your character(s) in the City Centre as if they just listened to the speech. But you may not role play them as they are listening to it. All role playing threads for the current King's Speech must be held in present tense. This already happened, it is done. I expect to see no threads with a character listening to the speech. Walking away from it, or being there is fine - but the King is gone.
